contrary to Eraserhead
This is a good alternative to cow’s milk, and contrary to Eraserhead, is safe. From mayo clinic:
“Health concerns about canola oil that are being circulated on the Internet are unfounded.
Misinformation about the safety of canola oil may stem from the fact that, years ago, oil was produced from the rapeseed plant. Rapeseed oil contains very high levels — 30 percent to 60 percent — of erucic acid, a compound that in large amounts can be toxic to humans. The canola plant was developed by natural cross-breeding from the rapeseed plant in the early 1970s. Canola oil is produced from canola plants, not rapeseed plants.
Canola plants have very low levels of erucic acid. According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), canola oil contains erucic acid levels in the range of 0.3 percent to 1.2 percent. This is well below the 2 percent limit set by the FDA.
Canola oil is very low in saturated fat and has a very high proportion of monounsaturated fat. So, it’s a healthy and safe choice when it comes to oils.”

Great for Child with Allergy to Soy and Milk
My son is allergic to both soy and milk, making our switch from our special formula to “milk” a difficult choice. Without this product, I am not sure where were would go. The review that wrote terrible things about the use of canola oil and praised the use of soy, neglected all the research on the negative effects of soy on the development of boys.
My son loves this. My doctor says it is great for him. There is nothing in it that he reacts to (no soy, no dairy). It is great to cook with in recipes that require milk.
All in all an amazing product for my family!!
compromised quality
I used Imagine Rice beverages for many years. I favored them for high quality ingredients, excellent flavor, reasonable price, and wide availability. I find milk and soy products cause digestive distress, rice beverages have no such effect, no cholesterol, very little fat, and taste great.
However, Imagine recently started to use the cheaper canola oil in their rice milk products. Canola oil contains erucic acid, a toxic chemical. The FDA has limited canola oil to no more than 1% erucic acid to protect our health, but scientific results do not confirm that number as definitely safe.
Canola oil is used as an insecticide, and cannot be used in baby food.
Studies in rats and piglets show heart lesions, decreased red blood cell count, and other tissue and organ damage. Erucic acid crosses the blood-brain barrier and is known to affect nerve cells. Check out the peer-reviewed medical journal articles.
Canola oil is extremely cheap and very low in saturated fats. But I don’t need to have insecticide in my food. I switched to Westsoy Rice Beverage.
